On this page of the blog you will find some excellent recommended reads for Year 6.  The first few good reads fit really well with your Black Out Topic – all about the Second World War and evacuees.

Carrie’s War – Nina Bawden

Carrie’s War is a 1973 British children’s novel by Nina Bawden, set during the Second World War and following two evacuees, Carrie and her younger brother Nick.  You don’t just have to read it, you could listen to a reading of the story on BBC School Radio.

Friend or Foe – Michael Morpurgo

Friend or Foe is a gripping World War II story from War Horse author and former Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo.  Evacuated from London, David and Tucky feel like the war is a long way away from their new life in the countryside. Then one night the skyline of the moor is lit up with gun flashes.  Again this story is on BBC School Radio.
